Skyrocketing yarn price paralysed SME knitters and handloom units

Yarn price hike forces closure of 15,000 handloom units. Production cost has increased beyond selling price, which compelled many to shut down their handloom units.

The price of 30-count yarn rose to $5 per kilogram [2.2 pounds] on the local market in mid-October, while just one year back it ranged between $3.5 and $3.6.

SME knitters usually make basic T-shirts, importers of which always pressured them to lower the price.
Major products like jeans and denim wears are mainly made of cotton-based fabrics, the price of these products also got higher.
