Be Productive, But Be Balanced

This past year I started a new phase of my life. I got accepted into my favorite major at a prestigious university, and started making new friends. The backbencher, who had never had a solid friend circle in his entire life, suddenly found himself in the midst of a vast circle of friends enjoying themselves to the fullest. The first semester I studied, joined clubs, pushed myself out of the cage called ‘home’, enjoyed my time with my classmates, and checked off a lot of my bucket lists.

My Myers-Briggs test says that I am a soft-hearted soul with a strong sense of determination and responsibility. I’ve also noticed that I’m so comfortable that once someone starts talking to me, they feel like they can pour everything out and find the comfort they’ve been missing in their lives. I love that I can be so friendly with everyone.

But somehow, when the engagement started to falter, I realized I wasn’t making much progress. If I want to see myself where I want to be in five years, I need to work harder than anyone.

My second semester is about to end, and I am happy with the way I have improved. Studying hard, doing lots of club work, having a job that makes me passionate, being on a research team, and being close to my family. I love this hard working version of me. But I miss my friends too. Distanceing is not something anyone likes to do, but I had to distance myself from everyone in order to be productive. My messenger is full with work and studies right now. This separation I did was not to hurt anyone, and I really hate it very much.

I hope that next year, I will be able to find a balance between life, study and work. I want to get back what I’ve lost, develop the skills I already have, learn more, study hard, and improve physically, spiritually, mentally, and socially.
