Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Thursday expressed its concern over an international media report on the purchase of highly controversial surveillance technology from Israel by the Government of Bangladesh.
In the absence of specific policies, the use of such technology would pose a serious risk of undermining several fundamental constitutional rights, the corruption watchdog said in a statement on Thursday.
People have a right to know the answer to the fundamental question that such a dreadful instrument with public tax money will be used as per the specific law and policy, for what purpose, in what context, in whose interest, it said.
According to a report in Israeli media Haaretz, Bangladesh bought the surveillance technology from a company run by a former Israeli intelligence commander, who came here in June last year.
