Supreme Court bans bail of BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul and Abbas, hearing on Sunday

When asked about the status of the High Court’s bail order, he said, “The High Court’s judgment was not stayed. So, for now, their judgment is in effect.”

“We told the Chambers Court that we will not grant bail within this time period.”

A High Court panel comprising Justice Mohammad Salim and Justice Riyaz Uddin Khan on Tuesday granted interim bail for six months to two BNP leaders after their bail pleas were rejected four times.

According to the case dossier, on 7 December, BNP workers clashed with the police in front of the party headquarters in Naya Paltan, Dhaka. One person was killed and several others were injured in the violence.

Police then raided the BNP offices and arrested several leaders and workers, including senior joint general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka Metropolitan North coordinator Aman Ullah Aman and special aide to the party chief Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.
