It said “several missiles” were fired from the Mediterranean west of the coastal city of Latakia.
Transport ministry official Suleiman Khalil told AFP technicians were assessing the damage.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strike “targeted an arms depot belonging to pro-Iranian forces in the airport compound and the perimeter of the airport.” UK-based war monitors said the depot had been “completely destroyed”.
On 7 March, an Israeli attack on the airport killed three people, causing a halt to air traffic, including relief flights. The airport reopened several days later.
