Textile factories are reopening, 5 new cases in Ashulia

With these fresh cases, around 23,000 people were booked in 40 cases in Ashulia and Savar. A total of 95 people have been arrested so far in these cases.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers Association (BGMEA) said all factories except three in Kashipur and Konabari in Ghazipur resumed operations yesterday, while about 99 factories in Ashulia and Mirpur remained closed.

The situation remains normal in Tongi, Ghazipur, Sripur, Mawana, Mymensingh, Sawar, Narayanganj and Chattogram.

“Our workers have understood that wages cannot be increased any longer,” BGMEA president Farooq Hasan told Prothom Alo last night. Therefore, they are eager to go back to work peacefully and resume their work. Some factories in Ashulia and most in Ghazipur have already reopened. We are discussing reopening of the remaining factories tomorrow and the day after (today and tomorrow).
