Unanswered covert attacks: Law enforcement inaction raises concerns

1 minute, 6 seconds Read

Incidents of covert attacks are taking place at various places across the country. Despite the worrying situation of covert attacks in many districts of the northern region, the inaction of law enforcement agencies has raised questions.

According to Prothom Alo report, masked men attacked Abdur Rasheed, a 60-year-old fish farmer, who was walking to a pond from his home in Bahadur village in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura. He was seriously injured. The local people detained the two attackers and handed them over to the police. At that time two rods were recovered from him.

In connection with the incident, his son Rafiqul Islam has registered a case at Adamdighi police station on Sunday, mentioning the names of two youths and six unknown people. Abdur Rashid is undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rehman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

“The police delayed registering the case. Although the police registered the case, they changed our statements. Although rods and knives were recovered from the two attackers, the police sought remand against them,” the plaintiff alleged. “Haven’t done it.”

“We are investigating the case to see if there is any connection between the attack on the Adamdighi fish farmer and the two incidents in Nagaon,” said Foysal Bin Ahsan, officer-in-charge of Naugaon Sadar police station. Why have the killers not been arrested in so many days?
