Uncertainty over the role of independent MPs in securing reserved women seats

If an individual MP chooses not to join any political party or alliance within this specified period, the Election Commission will list them separately under the ‘Non-Party Member List’. Subsequently, consideration will be given to forming a ‘non-partisan alliance’ with these listed members, and reserved seats for independent MPs will be allocated within this alliance.

The course of action for independent MPs remains uncertain, as there is currently no information about any formal discussions among them. Despite the lack of clarity, some independent MPs have hinted at the possibility of forming a separate group of six persons for the women’s seat.

AK Azad, independent MP from Faridpur-3 constituency, told Prothom Alo on Tuesday night that the issue of reserved women seats has not been discussed among the independent MPs.
