US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Central Asia Afrin Akhtar will visit Bangladesh next week to advance bilateral ties.
This will be the first visit by a senior US official after the 12th parliamentary elections.
Diplomatic sources said Afrin is scheduled to reach Dhaka on February 24 on a three-day visit.
The US official visited Bangladesh last October in what was the last visit by any senior US official before the elections.
Diplomatic sources said Afrin will hold an official meeting with Foreign Ministry Director General (South America Wing) Khandaker Masudul Alam. She may also hold another meeting with Foreign Secretary Masoud bin Momen.
