Hezbollah has said it has carried out more than 2,100 military operations against Israel since October 8, the day after the Hamas attack, according to a statement released by the militant group last week.
Hezbollah stepped up attacks last week after an Israeli strike on the village of Jowayya on Tuesday killed its top commander, Taleb Abdullah, who the Israeli military described as “one of Hezbollah's most senior commanders in southern Lebanon.”
It said this prompted the Iran-backed Lebanese movement to carry out targeted attacks against several Israeli military targets.
Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagar warned on Sunday that “Hezbollah's growing aggression is bringing us to the brink of a major escalation – which could have devastating consequences for Lebanon and the entire region.”
The United Nations has expressed concern over recent escalation on the Israel-Lebanon border and warned of the risk of miscalculations leading to wider tensions.
