US to raise concerns in first China AI talks

“China has made AI development a major national priority, and certainly it is increasingly deploying capabilities in the civilian and military/national security sectors,” said one US official, speaking on the customary condition of anonymity.
Chinese efforts are often occurring in ways that “we believe undermine both U.S. and allied national security,” he said.

“We will reiterate our concerns about Beijing's use of AI in that regard.”

Another US official said Washington has previously expressed concerns about the possibility of election interference through AI, although the issue will not be specifically on the Geneva agenda.

Both China and the United States are rapidly developing their own AI sectors, with Washington and its allies concerned about the capabilities of Beijing's communist authorities.
