Azad won the Bardhaman-Durgapur constituency by securing 720,667 votes, defeating Dilip Ghosh by a margin of 137,981 votes. Pathan won the Baharampur constituency by securing 524,516 votes, defeating Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury by a margin of 85,022 votes.

Kirti Azad, a member of India's first World Cup-winning team in 1983, represented India in seven Tests and 25 ODIs.

Azad, the son of former Bihar chief minister Bhagwat Jha Azad, was an aggressive right-handed batsman and off-spinner who represented India between 1980 and 1986.

He won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate from Bihar and later joined the Congress and then the Trinamool Congress in 2021.
