1.75 percent votes were cast in the first 30 minutes at Dhaka-5 polling station.

Dhaka-5 constituency consists of 14 wards of Dhaka South Municipal Corporation and are: 48, 49, 50, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 and 70 wards while this area Comes under this constituency are: Syedabad, Jatrabari, Dhalpur, Golapbagh, Noorpur, Paterbagh, Islambagh, Jantabagh, Smritdhara, Rayarbagh, Daniya, Sarai, Rasoolpur, Qutubkhali, Chantek, Shekhadi, Gobindpur, Kajlar Par, Matuel, Konapara, Dogair, Momenbagh, Rahmatpur, Muslimnagar, Madhubagh, Khanbari, Adarshbagh, Bamail and Sarulia. Outgoing Awami League MLA Kazi Monirul Islam is not contesting the elections for the 12th Parliament.

Awami League’s Jatrabari unit general secretary Rahunur Rashid Munna is contesting the election with the party’s boat symbol, while Awami League’s former Demra unit general secretary Moshiur Rahman Mollah is contesting as an independent candidate with the truck symbol and Kamrul Hasan, president of Awami League’s Dhaka City South Swayamsevak League, is contesting the election. He is contesting the election independently on the eagle symbol.
