At least 10 soldiers were killed in renewed fighting in Yemen, military sources told AFP, despite diplomatic efforts to halt the long-running war in the Arab world’s poorest country.

Clashes broke out in the oil-producing Marib province, which is one of the main battleground states and has also seen sporadic fighting during hostilities over the past year.

Two military sources told AFP that Iran-backed Houthi rebels attacked a mountainous region and are engaged in a military build-up in the area.

One of the sources said on condition of anonymity, “The Houthis launched an attack on the hills of Harib district, south of Marib, and made advances on that front, displacing dozens of families.”
