Jamuka member and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Liberation War Affairs Ministry, Shahjahan Khan, in a meeting on July 19 last year, had recommended adding the name of Hemayat Uddin from Baufal of Patuakhali to the gazette. “The applicant fought from Khalil Force camp in Madaripur district,” he wrote in the application.

When asked, Shahjahan Khan said, “I know Hemayat. So, I recommended him.

In the same meeting, former Dinajpur minister and MLA Mustafizur Rahman also recommended adding the names of Zahurul Islam and Rafiqul Haq from Phulbari upazila to the gazette. Regarding this, Mustafizur Rahman told Prothom Alo, “Maybe he is a freedom fighter, that’s why I recommended him.” But I can’t remember it right now.

Former Home Minister and Chadpur-4 MLA Rafiqul Islam recommended certification of Ghazi Abdus Sattar from Mohekali as a freedom fighter. The application placed in the meeting on October 24, 2022, shows that the Upazila Verification Committee has rejected his name. Later the application was disposed of through the appeal committee.

Dhak-16 MLA Elias Uddin Mollah made a recommendation that Lutfar Rahman of Chitalmari, Bagerhat be included in the gazette as a freedom fighter. The MLA wrote in the application that because Lutfar Rehman was not included in the Gazette, he has been deprived of all privileges.

Former cabinet secretary Kabir bin Anwar recommended adding the name of late Iman Ali, husband of Shahnara Begum from Pabna’s Wangura upazila, to the gazette as a freedom fighter, and Naugaon-2 MLA Shahiduzzaman Sarkar placed the application in the Jamuka meeting.

Later it was decided that the name of late Iman Ali would be included in the gazette.

Former minister, MLA and Jamuka member Mosharraf Hussain recommended the amendment to the gazette of Nurul Momin from Chattogram. “I know him personally,” the MLA wrote in the application.

MLA and Awami League’s Barishal district unit president Abul Hasnat Abdullah recommended inclusion of four people from Agailjhara upazila as freedom fighters in the gazette. They are Siddiqur Rahman, Sardar Samsul Alam, A Mannan Mollah and A Khaliq Havildar.

“The decision to add the four freedom fighters of Agaljhara to the gazette was taken specifically under consideration, but this decision will not be considered as a precedent in future,” Jamuka said in his meeting.
