12th National Poll: An Analysis of the Parliament's Composition and Election Dynamics

Despite the absence of the BNP and its allies in the electoral fray, at least 15 people were killed in election violence across the country since the election schedule was announced. Additionally, more than 2,200 people were injured in election-related clashes.

In the 12th national election, Awami League got 224 seats in the Parliament, Jatiya Party got 11 seats, Jashod got 1 seat, Workers Party got 1 seat and Bangladesh Kalyan Party got 1 seat. In addition, independent candidates won the elections from 62 constituencies.

59 of them are affiliated with the Awami League. Some of them are members of the 11th Parliament. The parties of these so-called kings suffered a shameful defeat in the elections.

Meanwhile, the number of women candidates in the 12th general election was 101. Additionally, 2 transgender candidates contested the election. Of them, 20 candidates emerged winners, including 16 AL-nominated candidates and 4 independent candidates.

Additionally, 81 candidates from religious and ethnic minority communities took part in the election. Of these, 14 candidates won the election. Among them, there are 12 AL-nominated candidates and two independent candidates.
