The Law Minister expressed hope that after the swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, independent candidates will convey their views to the government.
Responding to a question, Anisul Haq said that he (independent candidate) belongs to Awami League but he has not been selected as AL candidate. Rather, he was elected as an independent member of Parliament and his election symbol was also different. The only people who have been selected as “boat” candidates are Awami League candidates. In such a situation, he (independent MP) belongs to Awami League – this may be just for saying, but law and reality do not support it. “If they think they will build a platform, we will know who the opposition will be.”
Noting that some foreign observers had commented that the election was free and neutral, a journalist asked the Law Minister why the US had said in a statement that the election was not free, fair and participatory.
