A 14-year-old girl was hacked to death in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Sharmin Binthi, daughter of Bellal Hossain, of the area, said police.
She was a class eight student at Rayerbazar High School.
The incident took place around 9:00pm in front of her house in Rayerbazar area, when she had gone out with her younger brother to buy some vegetables, family members said.
She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition, where duty doctors declared her dead around 10:15pm.
“We heard noise downstairs. When I went down, I saw that someone had hacked my daughter and left her bleeding there,” her father Bellal Hossain said at the hospital.
He said they first took her to Shikder Medical and later shifted her to DMCH.
The girl’s mother, Nadia Begum, citing locals, alleged that a youth named Siam had stabbed her.
“He had been harassing my daughter over the phone for the past three to four years. I had once scolded him over the phone. Today he killed my daughter. I want justice,” she said.
Contacted, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of DMCH police camp, confirmed the death.
“The victim had multiple sharp-weapon injuries on her shoulder and back. The body has been kept at the morgue for autopsy,” he said.
Hazaribagh Police Station is investigating the incident, Faruk added.
