Farooki’s ‘Television’ to represent Bangladesh in Oscar next year

dn-televisionBangladesh film society has selected Mostafa Sarwar Farooki’s film Television to send in the Oscar competition to be held on March next year. Countries around the world select their film for Oscar competition every year. Then a short list is made for final competition. These films compete for foreign language film category. So far Bangladesh sent Matir Moyna, Shyamol Chhaya, Nirantar, Swapnadanga, Aha, Britter Baire, Third Person Singular Number and Ghetu Putra Kamola, but none of the films were nominated for final round.

Farooki’s Television participated at the Pusan International Film Festival and selected as closing film. Farooki is not commenting on Television’s prospect, but he thinks Asian film may win Oscar in the foreign language film category this year.

Redwan Rony’s Chorabali and Farooki’s Television was the two contestants this year. Adjudicators decided to send Television.  It was informed from a press conference today.

Farooki’s another film Third Person Singular Number was sent to Oscar in 2010.
