Tajmilur Rahman, manager of IFIC Bank's Bogura corporate branch, said there was no security guard at the Matidala sub-branch. Officials at the sub-branch confirmed that the money was looted by breaking open the safe.

He said that it is being investigated whether there was any negligence on the part of anyone in the bank.

Saihan Oliullah, the officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar police station, told Prothom Alo that there was no security guard at the sub-branch and the money was kept in a safe instead of a vault. The door to the roof of the two-storey building was also kept open. Security at the bank was very lax and bank officials were careless in the matter.

He said that the police is working to catch the miscreants.
