Humayun Kabir, principal sub-inspector (SI) of Aminbazar River police post, said officials recovered Arif’s body on the morning of June 24.
“Later that day, around noon, Ronnie Molla drowned while bathing at Diabari Ghat along with several others. Others tried to save him for about an hour before bringing him to the shore, but he was already dead. Savar Model Police Station has registered a case of unnatural death in connection with Ronnie’s death.”
Kofil Uddin Molla, father of Ronnie Molla, 35, of Monipur Mollapara in the capital, told Prothom Alo, “Ronnie worked at a hotel in Dyabari area of Uttara. After receiving the news of his death on June 24, I went to the spot and learned that he had died while taking a bath. The hotel staff told me that Ronnie had left the hotel that morning.” He further added, “Ronnie had some mental health problems and would sometimes wander off whenever he felt like it. He was never involved in politics.”
Turag police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mustafizur Rahman told Prothom Alo, “Since June 22, authorities have recovered a body from the part of the Turag river that falls under the jurisdiction of Ashulia police station. There was also a procession that day, several suspects were arrested, and all those incidents occurred within the jurisdiction of Ashulia police station.”
