At around 7 pm, fire service members were seen spraying water from two machines and working to rescue people trapped inside. Members of the fire service broke the glass walls from the 10th floor to the 14th floor of the building and started extinguishing the fire.
Salman Hussain was on the 12th floor of Khawaja Tower when the fire broke out. He is the Assistant Manager of Saif Powertech. He said he was coming down the stairs after hearing the fire alarm. But ultimately he could not do so because smoke was coming from the floors below. Later he again reached the 12th floor. From there he went down using another staircase at the back of the building.
Salman Hussain said, “While coming down, I saw that the lift on the fifth floor was burning. That fire spread throughout the building.”
According to DMCH sources, five people have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute due to breathing problems.
