39 BNP leaders-activists sentenced: Latest updates on convictions and arrest warrants

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Dhaka on Monday sentenced 39 leaders-activists of BNP and its affiliate organizations to different terms in three separate cases.

Those convicted are police station and ward level leaders and workers of the opposition party. The court issued an arrest warrant against him as he was not present in the court when the verdict was announced.

With this, a total of 584 BNP leaders-workers were convicted in 34 cases in the last three months. However, several individuals were convicted on more than one count. These cases were registered on charges of obstructing police work, vandalizing and arson of vehicles and throwing crude bombs.

Of the three cases disposed of on Monday, two were filed in September 2018.

A case has been registered in Uttarakhand on charges of beating by police. CMM Court Magistrate Mohammad Joshim sentenced 16 BNP leaders-workers to two and a half years imprisonment in this case.
