He said the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2026 has also been passed to ensure speedy disposal of criminal cases and the law provides for exemption from proclamation and attachment procedures in certain cases involving absconding accused to reduce unnecessary delays.

“It also introduces digital methods for serving summons, thereby ensuring greater use of technology in judicial proceedings,” he said.

He further said that under the Information Technology Act, 2020, the depositions of investigating officers, doctors and magistrates who recorded the confessions of the accused are being taken online, thereby facilitating speedy trial proceedings.

He said the government has already set up 871 courts and created 232 new posts of judges to reduce the pendency of cases.
