60 million books out of 410 million were distributed on the first day

There were no students at Segunbagicha High School in the capital at around 12:00 yesterday, Wednesday. However, Principal AKM Obaidullah was in his office. He said that they have been provided three books each for classes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 9th and 10th. They received one of two pre-school level books.

Next to the school is the office of Ramna Police Station Education Officer. Under this office, books are being provided free of cost to about 51 educational institutions including secondary schools and madrassas. Their total demand for textbooks is 456,464. However, till yesterday, they received 22,770 books of class VIII and 22,554 books of class X. Textbooks of other classes were not available till yesterday.

This is a fragmented picture of the distribution of free text books across the country. The situation was more or less the same in the entire country. The result was that many students could not get textbooks on the first day of the year.

According to the National Curriculum and Textbook Board, out of the total 410 million text books to be distributed this year, only 60 million have been distributed on the first day of the year.
