The vessel MV MP Ultra Max 2, carrying 61,000 tonnes of wheat from the United States of America (US) as part of the Cash Purchase Agreement No. 3 between the US and Bangladesh, has reached the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port.
This update was provided by the Food Ministry in a press release today, Tuesday.
Earlier, under the G2G agreement, 58,457 metric tonnes of wheat from the first consignment and 62,150 metric tonnes of wheat from the second consignment had arrived in the country.
Testing of wheat samples has begun on the ship, and arrangements are being made for the rapid unloading of 61,000 metric tonnes of wheat.
29,450 MT will be offloaded at Chattogram, the remaining 31,550 MT will be offloaded at Mongla port.
Bangladesh has begun importing wheat from the United States through government-to-government agreements.
In all, 467,884 MT of wheat has arrived in the country under the G2G-01 and G2G-02 agreements, of which 237,845 MT is under G2G-01 and 230,039 MT is under G2G-02.
The country’s total wheat demand is about 7 million metric tons, while domestic production is 1 million metric tons. The shortfall is met by government and private imports.
