The BBS report said data was collected from 46,080 adults from the same number of households through the sampling method.
The Electoral System Reform Commission submitted its report to Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on January 15. A summary of the recommendations has also been published for the media and public.
The report proposed making a neutral person the President. However, it omitted the demand for direct voting for the presidential election.
Instead, the proposal stated that the President would be elected through direct voting of MPs from both Houses of Parliament and public representatives from local government organisations.
The survey also tried to gauge people’s opinion about the political affiliation of the President.
About 28.57 percent of the respondents supported partisan persons, while 68.28 percent wanted a neutral person to become the President of the country. About 2.39 percent respondents said they did not know about it while less than 1 percent showed no interest in answering the question.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, Electoral System Reform Commission chief Badiul Alam Majumdar said the survey was conducted to assess public perception on elections and other issues as popular opinion is very important in a democracy.
