Senior Supreme Court lawyer Sara Hussain has criticized the repeated denial of bail in cases related to the mass insurgency killings in July. Referring to the fact that the July uprising was meant to achieve a new Bangladesh and end injustice, he said, “Now the situation is such that a judge or judges have to think ten times about whether they should really grant bail to someone.”
He made the remarks while speaking at the third session of the one-day national conference organized by the NCP’s Reform Implementation Committee at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
The theme of the third session of the conference titled ‘National Conference on Energy, Economy, Reforms and Referendum’ was ‘Freedom of Expression and Human Rights: Current Risks and the Way Forward’.
Addressing NCP leaders, workers and attendees, Sara Hussain raised the question: Are human rights only for those who share my ideology, party, group, gender and religion, or are they for everyone? He further asked whether we are willing to respect the human rights of those who do not agree with our beliefs.
