In 2016, an initiative was taken to demolish the house in which Abdus Sobhan was living and construct three multi-storey buildings. At that time he was allotted house number. At 42 Minto Road. He has been living there since then.

Abdus Sobhan was elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Madaripur-3 (Kalkini, Dasar and a section of Madaripur Sadar) constituency for the first time in 2018, receiving the Awami League nomination.

On condition of anonymity, several AL leaders confirmed to Prothom Alo that Abdus Sobhan was not reappointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister when the party formed the government again in 2019.

Five people were appointed as special assistants to the Prime Minister on 28 January, following the 12th parliamentary elections. They are Nilufar Ahmed, Firdous Ahmed Khan and Shaheed Hussain (equivalent to a secretary) while Bilpab Barua and Mashiur Rahman alias Humayun (equivalent to a deputy secretary). Abdus Shobhan is not in the list.

A visit to the PMO website on Wednesday night also confirmed that Abdus Shobhan’s name was not in the list of special assistants to the PM.

No letter related to his appointment as Special Assistant to the PM, except in 2018, was found in the relevant government departments. Nor could any government circular be found against Abdus Shobhan’s claim as Honorary Special Assistant to the Prime Minister.
