A Pakistani security guard was injured in the attack, which Pakistan said was an attempt to kill its chief of mission, who was unwell.

Pakistan has had good relations with the Afghan Taliban for decades, but relations have been strained recently over security concerns along their shared border.

The Taliban said they arrested a suspect and recovered two guns, and Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement that the suspect was a foreign Islamic State member.

“Some foreign groups are behind the attack and their aim is to create mistrust between the two brotherly countries,” Mujahid said.
