Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi said, “We are still dreaming and we are still trying our best to reach the semi-finals. It will be a huge achievement for our country and for me.”
“A message for our country. We know people are struggling, we are with them. I dedicate this victory to them.”
Afghanistan’s next match is a possible clash with five-time champions Australia on Tuesday.
In January, Australia controversially canceled a series against Afghanistan in protest over the Taliban’s treatment of women, they claimed.
Rahmat Shah scored his third consecutive half-century for Afghanistan, while Hashmatullah scored an unbeaten 56, also his third consecutive half-century.
Rahmat had scored 77 runs against Pakistan and 62 runs in the win over Sri Lanka.
