After Cyclone Remal: 29 deer carcasses found in Sunderbans | Forest officials confirm recovery

The entire Sundarbans was submerged for about 30 hours due to tidal surge caused by Cyclone Remal, resulting in saline water entering the ponds dug to conserve fresh water for wildlife and people.

Meanwhile, the forest department recovered 26 deer carcasses from various areas of Sundarbans by Tuesday afternoon.

The carcasses of three deer were recovered from the Baleswar river in Patharghata upazila of Barguna.

A total of 17 injured deer have been released into the forest after treatment. Forest Conservator of Khulna region Mihir Kumar Tho has confirmed the case.

Speaking to Prothom Alo, Kazi Mohammad Nurul Karim, divisional officer of Sundarbans East Forest Department, said, “We have still not been able to visit all the places. The sea and rivers are turbulent. The tides continued for about 25 to 30 hours. We are getting reports of many animals dying. We will be able to share more news after gathering detailed information.”
