A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Apilian Group employees were protesting in the street in front of the factory demanding a salary hike. At that time, a group of local AL leaders attacked them, injuring several RMG workers. This attack enraged the RMG workers further and workers from other factories also joined the protest.
It was learned that the workers took charge and blocked the Mirpur-Pallabi road. They broke the CCTV cameras of the Apilion Group factory and surrounding buildings.
Champa Khatoon, an Apilion Group worker, said the attack took place when workers were talking to the factory management about a wage increase.
Pallabi Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mezbah Uddin told Prothom Alo that the activists had taken to the streets after the attack.
