The Commission appears to be satisfied that it has abdicated its duties in the name of consultation with some political parties without any concrete agenda on the key issue of non-partisan role of the government at the time of elections. By overstepping the rules of conducting due elections, the Commission is actually fulfilling the agenda of non-inclusive one-sided elections.

TIB argues that non-inclusive one-sided elections may secure power, but not democracy, and certainly not the people’s right to vote, nor their faith. Similarly, violence cannot be a means of achieving political objectives under any circumstances.

The statement strongly calls on all concerned stakeholders to desist from blind politics of power holding the people hostage.

TIB Executive Director Iftikharuzzaman echoed this concern, saying in the past month, nearly two hundred vehicles have been set on fire, and trains have also been the target of similar arson.
