The CES show officially opens Jan. 5, but companies will begin vying for the spotlight with the latest technological wizardry as early as Tuesday.
CES will be spread over more than 18 acres (seven hectares), from the massive Las Vegas Convention Center to pavilions set up in parking lots. The ballroom and banquet room at Sin City will be used to drum up business.
With transportation now the new frontier of computing, next-generation autos, trucks, boats, farm equipment and even flying machines are expected to attract attention, according to analysts.
“It’s going to feel like you’re at an auto show,” said Kevan Yalovitz, head of platform strategy at Accenture.
More than ever, cars now come with operating systems, much like smartphones or laptop computers, with Accenture expecting nearly 40 percent of vehicles on the road to need remotely updated software by 2040.
