Aiden Markram paid tribute to match-winning batsman Quinton de Kock

“He has been really special this year and long may that continue.”

The downside for South Africa, who registered their fourth win in five World Cup matches, was that they had to wait until the 47th over to win after bowling out Bangladesh for 58-5.

South Africa came to India without Anrich Nortje after the fast bowler was ruled out with a back injury.

But Markram was not too worried about how he bowled in the end.
“Mahmudullah played very well. You’re never practicing in a match but we thought we’d switch to ‘death bowling’ with him.
“But if it goes wrong, the ball disappears.”

Markram, who is again leading the team in the absence of ill Temba Bavuma, said he was hopeful of having the regular captain back for the Proteas’ next match against Pakistan in Chennai on Friday.

“He’s improved a lot but he wasn’t quite ready for today. Hopefully he will keep improving and be ready for Pakistan.
