Two people including Samrul have been arrested in this incident. It is said that he had a contract of 800,000 taka from the importing company FM Traders, in which the contract was to steal goods from the warehouse.
The airport authority has lost revenue of 800,000 to 1 million taka in this incident. Biman Bangladesh Airlines performs ground handling duties at the airport.
Apart from providing various services to various airlines including handling of passengers’ baggage, Biman also renders its services in import and export. So how can they deny responsibility for the theft?
In case of imports, cargo brought by various airlines gets stored in the godowns of the cargo village. The importers then release the goods through Customs Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) agents after paying the duty.
For keeping the goods in the godown, the aircraft gets hired at fixed rates. It is unbelievable that a company has given a bribe of 800,000 taka just to get its goods out of warehouse to avoid 800,000 to 1 million taka duty.
