“Many people may have ill-conceived efforts to make the elections suspicious. For strategic reasons, AL leaders have been given approval to become independent candidates,” he said at a function at the Dhanmondi political office of the AL president.
The function was organized to hand over letters to AL leaders who received the party’s nomination to contest the upcoming general elections.
Quader said there was nothing ambiguous in the speech that AL Nomination Board Chairman and AL President Sheikh Hasina delivered to the AL candidates at Gana Bhavan on Sunday.
She (Sheikh Hasina) told everything clearly that those who want to become candidates as per her guidelines will be dummy candidates, he said.
So, the AL General Secretary further said, there is no bar on becoming a candidate by following these guidelines given by the AL President.
Speaking about the AL-nominated candidates, Quader said the party tickets have been given only to those who have the potential to win the elections.
The government is trying to conduct peaceful elections, but the opposition party is obstructing it, he remarked.
