The attacks have been on the rise again since the Afghan Taliban took over Kabul last year, with most security forces being targeted.
Locals say the racketeering has affected the border with Pakistan, encouraged by the success of the TTP’s ally movement. The months-long ceasefire between the TTP and Islamabad ended last month.
According to the government, about 300 incidents of terrorism have been recorded in 2022 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan.
The defense minister told a press conference in Islamabad that a new security campaign should be launched against insurgency in the region.
“There is a spillover effect from the situation in Afghanistan and it is affecting Pakistan, we have to start this operation,” he said.
