The rise in commodity prices has led to an increase in daily expenditure. The real income of the people has decreased. That’s why everyone hopes that the allocation in the social safety net sector will be increased in the coming budget. Even economists have suggested increasing the allocation for the social safety net. However, there will be a reduction in allocation to this sector in the upcoming budget.
According to planning ministry sources, it is proposed to allocate Tk 33.18 billion to the social security sector, which is Tk 2.86 billion less than last year.
Former secretary and mega-infrastructure expert Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan told Prothom Allo, “People are already suffering due to high price hike. If the allocation for the social safety net is reduced in the next ADP, people will become more helpless.” Therefore, the allocation to this sector should be increased.”
However, the one-time allocation in the next ADP is increasing by Tk 10 billion. This allocation is to cover emergency expenditure. The upcoming ADP for this sector will have an allocation of Tk 46.96 billion, up from Tk 37.67 in the current ADP.
