On the occasion of Tareque Masud’s 58th birthday on December 6, the second annual Tareque Masud Festival will be held on December 12 and 13 at the National Theatre Auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
The untimely death of the celebrated film maker is mourned each year by fans and friends, but his birthday is celebrated in a festive manner.
A two-day festival has been arranged with vibrant and exclusive events by the Tareque Masud Memorial Trust. The theme of this year’s festival is “Amar Mukti, Amar Juddho” [My Freedom, My Fight].
On the opening day, Bangla will give a live performance and a music video of the band’s song “Kanar hatbazar” will be unveiled. The first screening of “Remembering Runway,” a documentary on the making of Tareque’s final film “Runway,” will be held at 4:30pm.
The unveiling of the DVD of Tareque’s first film, “Adam Surat,” internationally released as “Inner Strength,” a documentary on the Bangladeshi painter SM Sultan, will take place at 6pm.
On the second day, Tareque’s songs will be performed at 3pm followed by the Tareque Masud Memorial Lecture which will be given by poet and journalist Sajjad Sharif. The festival is being jointly organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the Bengal Foundation, Pathshala and the Moviyana Film Society.
