White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt said Witkoff and Kushner would visit Pakistan on Saturday “to engage in talks with representatives of the Iranian delegation.”
“The Iranians reached out, as the President asked them to do, and asked for this in-person conversation,” Leavitt said, adding that the talks “hopefully will get the ball moving toward an agreement.”
Leavitt said Vice President J.D. Vance, who led the first round of talks that ended without an agreement in Islamabad two weeks ago, would not attend for now but “stands ready to go to Pakistan if necessary.”
Till late Friday night it was not clear whether the Iranian side would meet the American envoys directly or not.
Iranian state television said Araghchi had no plans to meet the Americans and would serve as a bridge to “convey” Iranian proposals to end the conflict to Islamabad.
