Foreign employment has been playing an important role in the socio-economic aspect of Bangladesh for a long time which has proved its strong presence in 2022. It is also an alternative source of growth. Bangladesh earns a significant amount of remittances from overseas employment to cover the balance of payments.
In all aspects, both issues are very important in the perspective planning of the country. Keeping this issue in mind, the analysis of the maneuver shows what actually happened in the year 2022. According to the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) database, 11,10,034 people went abroad for work in 2022 while 6,17,209 people went abroad in 2019. 2021. This shows an increase of 79.84 percent in foreign employment in the outgoing year as compared to the previous year. Also, this is the highest number of migrations from Bangladesh since 1976. This has crossed the record figure of 10,08,525 in 2017.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) gained the maximum employment which is 6,12,409 and accounts for about 55.17 percent of the total employment. The second largest employment was generated in Oman which is 1,79,611, followed by United Arab Emirates (UAE) with 98,452 and Singapore with 64,383. The next largest number is employed in Malaysia at 50,090, followed by Qatar at 24,447 and Kuwait at 20,421. In addition, 12,230 migrants went to Jordan, 7,592 to Italy, 5,910 to South Korea and 5,484 to Mauritius. It is clearly found that most of the employment took place in Middle-Eastern countries which is 85.4pc and the dependence of foreign employment also remained concentrated on some countries. To reduce dependency, the government should focus on exploring new and alternative sites.
