Argentina vs England: Security tightened ahead of World Cup semi-final

Argentina’s Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva said Tuesday that increased security had been discussed at a meeting in the United States on Monday.

Monteoliva indicated that, for the first time in the tournament, rival fans will be brought into Atlanta Stadium through separate entrances on Wednesday.

“There will be 1,600 officers there… We want the celebrations to be peaceful,” he told local radio in Argentina.

FIFA’s ticket sales policies for the tournament mean that separating fans inside the stadium, as is routinely the case at home football matches in England and Argentina, will be almost impossible on Wednesday.
