Police say they have information indicating that Mobarak Hussein has 15 to 20 firearms and is highly skilled in the use of weapons. Investigators also claim that he was responsible for arranging both the armed assailants and the motorcycles used in the Bakalia double murder.
Senior police officials said the two men are currently leading criminal operations in Chattogram on behalf of fugitive criminal Sajjad Ali, also known as Boro Sajjad. One of them is Mobarak Hussain.
According to him, earlier this group inside the country was led by Sajjad Hussain alias Chhoto Sajjad. However, after his imprisonment, Mobarak Hussain and Mohammad Raihan have taken over the leadership of the organization. Rehan himself is facing at least eight criminal cases including charges of extortion, illegal possession of firearms and murder.
Police further claim that Boro Sajjad’s criminal network consists of at least 50 active gunmen and associates. They allege that Mohammad Raihan and Mobarak Hussain are regularly demanding extortion from individuals and business establishments on their behalf.
Although the victims have filed a complaint, the police have not been able to arrest any of them so far.
