“So far eight people are reported dead and search efforts are ongoing to locate two more,” the Jalisco Civil Protection Service said in a statement Monday evening.
Deforestation and fires earlier this year significantly damaged the forested area and may have contributed to the flash floods, local civil protection official Juan Ignacio Arroyo Verastegui told AFP.
