Nurul Haq Noor, president of the political party Gono Rights Council, was attacked along with his associates at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) area of Dhaka University on Wednesday afternoon.
Nurul Haq had gone to the campus to join a demonstration organized by the Students’ Rights Council to protest against the arrest of BUET students, the killing of madrassa student Rezaul, and attacks on leaders and activists of opposition parties.
According to media reports, when he reached the cafeteria near TSC crossing Raju Sculpture, a group of Chhatra League leaders and activists came there and brutally thrashed Nurul Haq.
Nurul Haque is the former President of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU).
There was no clash, no vandalism and no untoward incident in the campus which could have triggered the attack. According to media reports, leaders and activists of the Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, carried out the attack without any provocation.
Such an incident cannot be imagined in a country where there is rule of law. Is there no rule of law in the country?
No criminal can be attacked like this. If there is an allegation of criminal offense against Nurul Haq, then the law will deal with it.
