Attempt to rape a student in Jahangirnagar University; case registered

An incident of attempted rape has come to light in Jahangirnagar University, where a student was allegedly dragged from the road into the bushes at night. The incident happened inside the campus at around 11 pm on Tuesday night. The victim was later rescued and taken to the university medical center.

In response, today, Wednesday, a case was registered at the Ashulia police station by MD Zafarul Hasan Choudhary, Deputy Registrar, Security Branch of the University, accusing an unidentified man of attempted rape. Students and various student organizations have also announced protest programmes.

Confirming the case, Ashulia police station officer-in-charge MD Tarekul Islam told Prothom Alo that a case of attempt to murder and attempt to rape has been registered based on the complaint. He said the case is being treated with high importance, and several law enforcement units are already operating in and around the university area. Officials hope that the suspect will be arrested soon.
