Australia beats Netherlands by 309 runs in World Cup: Australia sets new record in World Cup

Thanks to Glenn Maxwell’s World Cup’s fastest century on 40 balls and David Warner’s 104 runs, Australia on Wednesday defeated Netherlands by a record 309 runs in the World Cup and achieved its third consecutive win in the tournament.

Maxwell’s innings of 106 runs in 44 balls with the help of nine fours and eight sixes helped Australia score 399-8, which was easily defended by their bowlers as the Dutch team was all out for just 90 in 21 overs in New Delhi. Got out on the run.

Five-time winners Australia bettered their previous World Cup victory margin by 275 runs against Afghanistan in Perth in 2015.

India had set the ODI record for the highest margin of victory by defeating Sri Lanka by 317 runs in Thiruvananthapuram earlier this year.

There were records galore on Wednesday as Maxwell’s explosive innings broke the record held by South Africa’s Aiden Markram, who had scored a century off 49 balls against Sri Lanka at the same ground exactly 18 days earlier.

He hit two fours and three sixes off consecutive balls from Bas de Leede to achieve the feat before being dismissed in the final over.

Warner, who had last scored 163 against Pakistan, completed his second consecutive century off 91 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes and laid the foundation of his team’s dominance.
