Chanderpaul got the benefit of that decision in the form of late dismissal.
The Australian team had a very poor start to the first innings and were reduced to 24-4 and 54-5.
He was saved by a counter-innings from wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who scored 65 runs in just 49 balls.
When Carey was out on the score of 150, the Australian team was still 161 runs behind and it seemed that the West Indies would take a big lead in the second innings.
But Cummins had other ideas and he and Usman Khawaja (75) took Australia to 242 before the opener became the first Test wicket of off-spinner Kevin Sinclair at first slip.
After being dismissed, Sinclair celebrated with a spectacular celebration that included a sprint to cover followed by a round-off and back somersault.
Khawaja’s wicket was a signal for Cummins to step up even more on the attack and he reached his highest Test score of 64 in an innings, combining regulation cricket shots with agricultural swipes.
